SPBOY Website is Live

Once again, our school district has generously sponsored the Surrey Picture Book of the Year (SPBOY) program.  Each elementary school in Surrey has been gifted ten new books that have been chosen as top reads by a committee of Teacher Librarians from our school district.  In May, students from all across Surrey vote for their favorite book and it is always an exciting time to see which books wins!

The website for the Surrey Picture Book of the Year is now available for students, parents and teachers to visit.  It provides links to each of the nominated books that includes further information that will help readers to make more meaningful connections to the stories.  I will be making reference to this website when we read these books together and I encourage you to do the same.

Library Hours

Students from Kindergarten through Grade 7 have one scheduled library period a week however are also welcome to exchange books after school. The library is open on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays until 3:15. Parents are welcome to join their children in selecting books or speak to me about books and literature choices for their child.

Library Monitors

Our library relies upon the Grade 7 students to act as library monitors. These students are integral to keeping the library tidy, shelving books, creating displays, helping fellow students, speaking at assemblies and even running book fairs. In other words, they run much of the library! Maple Green is very fortunate to have such reliable and mature students.

Parent Volunteers

Throughout the year, there are various library events that would not happen if not for the help of our wonderful parent community. If you have some time to spare and would like to get involved with the library program, please contact me. Help is always needed and appreciated.
